Program Overview

Foundations Leadership & Skills Camp is a one-week, hands-on adventure camp built for older kids who want to stay busy, work together, try new things, and actually do stuff all day.

This is not a sit-and-watch camp. Campers spend their days building, exploring, problem-solving, working with rescue animals, and learning practical survival-style skills through real projects and challenges.

Camp is led by David Seaton, a former Scoutmaster with years of experience mentoring youth, alongside his son Zachary Seaton, an Eagle Scout and military officer. Campers work in small teams, learn by doing, and grow confidence through shared effort, responsibility, and accomplishment.

Expect muddy boots, tired muscles, dirty hands, and kids who go home proud of what they built and helped care for.

What Campers Will Work On

Throughout the week, campers rotate through focused skill blocks and team projects that may include:

  • Woodworking and basic tool safety
  • Fire building and fire safety
  • Land navigation and map reading
  • Team-building challenges and problem solving
  • Building and improving animal enclosures
  • Physical fitness activities and obstacle-style challenges
  • Daily hands-on work with rescue animals
  • Group projects and challenges that change each day

Activities are adjusted based on age, readiness, and conditions, but each day is full, active, and purposeful.

Daily Flow

Each day follows a clear structure while allowing flexibility for hands-on work:

  • Morning check-in and plan for the day
  • Skill-building blocks and project work
  • Outdoor and physical activity
  • Lunch and brief downtime
  • Afternoon challenges, builds, or animal work
  • End-of-day wrap-up and reflection

Campers are busy, engaged, and supported throughout the day.

Outdoor Time & Conditions

This is a predominantly outdoor camp. Campers spend time outside every day unless conditions are unsafe.

Outdoor work may include supervised creek and water-based activities, animal care, environmental tasks, and physical challenges when conditions allow. Indoor space is used as needed for safety, rest, or specific projects.
