Now Enrolling for the 2026–2027 School Year
Trailblazers Club is our upper elementary enrichment program for ages 8 to 11. It is designed for homeschool families who want meaningful, hands-on learning and social time beyond what happens at home, without committing to a full academic program.
Learning happens both indoors and outdoors. Students spend time in the classroom working on projects, games, and creative challenges, with regular time outside for movement, nature exploration, and fresh air. We are located on a working farm animal rescue and sanctuary, but this is not a free-range wild school. The farm and animals support learning and discussion; they are not the focus of every activity.
Trailblazers Club focuses on creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and friendships. It feels like a club, not another “school day.”
Schedule
For the Winter and Spring 2026 term, Trailblazers Club meets:
- Day: Wednesdays
- Hours: 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM
- Location: Hidden Bee Learning at Hidden Bee Farm, 753 Carters Creek Pike, Columbia, TN
If interest and staffing allow, a second Trailblazers Club day may be added in the future. Families will be notified if a Thursday option becomes available.
For tuition details, please see our Tuition and Enrollment page.
What Trailblazers Club Offers
Trailblazers Club is an enrichment-only program that pairs well with home academics. It is a place where older kids can learn, create, and connect with peers in a structured but relaxed setting.
Focus areas include:
Writing and communication
Short creative writing, journaling, storytelling, comics, simple scripts, and projects that let students express ideas in fun, low-pressure ways.
Science and exploration
Experiments, nature-based investigations, observation, simple data collection, and projects that connect science to real life and the farm environment.
Art and design
Drawing, painting, mixed media, crafts, design challenges, and seasonal creative projects that tie into our themes.
Games, logic, and problem solving
Strategy games, puzzles, escape-room style challenges, team activities, and collaborative problem-solving.
Social and club time
Group activities that build friendships, communication skills, and confidence in a small, supportive peer group.
Trailblazers emphasizes growth through creativity and practical learning rather than formal graded academic instruction.
Curriculum and Approach
Trailblazers Club uses a mix of enrichment resources and teacher-created projects:
- Elements of Blossom and Root for nature-inspired art and creative thinking
- Elements of Moving Beyond the Page for project-based storytelling and exploration
- Seasonal and thematic projects, games, and challenges chosen to match the group’s interests
Students work in small groups, with a focus on collaboration, creativity, and personal expression. All materials for in-class activities are provided by Hidden Bee Learning.
Who Trailblazers Club Is For
Trailblazers Club works well for:
- Homeschool students ages 8 to 11 who want regular time with peers
- Kids who enjoy projects, games, and creative work more than worksheets
- Families who want enrichment support but prefer to keep core academics at home
Placement in Trailblazers Club is based on maturity and readiness, not just age. Some students are ready around age 8, while others benefit from remaining in a younger group a bit longer. We are happy to talk with families about whether Pathfinders or Trailblazers is the better fit.
Parents remain the primary educators and are responsible for homeschool registration and core academic instruction. Trailblazers provides structured enrichment and social opportunities that support, but do not replace, your home program.
For more information on Tennessee homeschool requirements, please see our Resources & FAQ page.
Indoor and Outdoor Learning
Trailblazers Club combines classroom time with outdoor movement and exploration:
- Indoors, students work on projects, games, art, and group challenges.
- Outdoors, they may observe nature, sketch, participate in scavenger-style activities, or take part in structured games.
Students are always supervised indoors and outdoors. Outdoor time takes place within clear boundaries and expectations.
Because Hidden Bee Farm is a rescue and sanctuary, animal interaction is limited and always supervised. Students may observe or occasionally interact with animals when appropriate, but animals are not used as playground equipment.
Safety, Class Size, and Staffing
Safety, respect, and structure matter just as much for older kids as they do for younger ones.
For Trailblazers Club:
- Class size is kept intentionally small so students can be known by name and supported as individuals.
- Total morning enrollment on the property across groups is capped at about 18–20 children with 3 adults, which works out to roughly 1 adult for every 6–7 children.
- Students are always supervised indoors and outdoors.
- Animal areas are only accessed with staff present and under clear rules.
- All staff are background checked, and there is always at least one CPR and First Aid trained adult on site.
Predictable routines and clear expectations help older students feel safe and respected, which makes it easier for them to relax, be themselves, and participate.
