Zachary, an accomplished geospatial analyst, survey technician, and a respected Lieutenant in the Army National Guard. He also brings the valuable perspective of being an Eagle Scout. His diverse background equips him with a rich tapestry of navigational knowledge and practical skills, which he is eager to impart.

Join us for an two-day adventure with Zachary Seaton! This workshop is more than just learning to read maps; it’s about embarking on a journey of discovery in the world of navigation. Our young navigators will not only delve into the basics of maps and compasses but will also engage in practical exercises that bring these tools to life.
Day 1: The World of Maps and Compasses (2 hours)
- Introduction to Navigation Tools: Discover the variety and uses of different maps and compasses.
- Map Reading Skills: Learn to interpret map symbols, scales, and colors.
- Compass Fundamentals: Explore the concepts of magnetic north and the essentials of compass handling.
- Interactive Challenge: Participate in a mini treasure hunt designed to apply these new skills in a fun, controlled setting.
Day 2: Navigational Mastery (2 hours)
- Advanced Compass Techniques: Master aligning maps with the real world and using compasses for direction finding.
- Route Planning: Develop the ability to chart simple courses using maps.
- Outdoor Navigation Exercise: Engage in a supervised outdoor activity, applying navigational skills in a real-world scenario.
- Class Debrief: A session to reflect, ask questions, and consolidate learning.
