Hidden Bee Learning & Hidden Bee Farm
Columbia, Tennessee
Hi, I’m Alicia
I’m the mom of two adult sons, and motherhood has shaped how I see children and learning more than anything else in my life. One of my sons is autistic and was homeschooled from kindergarten. The other attended private school. Raising them through two very different educational paths gave me something no book or training program could have: a real, lived understanding of what it means to find the right fit for a child and what happens when you do.
My background is in art, business, and creative work. Before this chapter I owned my own decorative painting company. I have always loved building things that feel purposeful and made with care, and that has carried into everything about Hidden Bee Learning.
When my autistic son was in kindergarten, our homeschool journey began. That season reshaped our family’s path and gave me a deep understanding of how much it matters for children to be truly seen and supported in the way they actually learn. That experience became the heart of what we built here.
Hidden Bee Learning did not grow from a curriculum or a business plan. It grew from our family’s story and a genuine desire to create the kind of place we wished had existed when we needed it most.
The Things That Matter Most
I care deeply about reading. Helping children become strong, confident readers is something I think about every single day. When a child learns to read well, every other door opens. It feeds imagination, builds independence, and stays with them for life. It is woven into the way we approach learning at Hidden Bee Learning from the very beginning.
I have always loved animals. When our family bought this farm it became part of our story in a way we did not fully expect. We love it here, and we love sharing it with other families. There is something about this place, the animals, the space to move and breathe, the pace of farm life, that brings something genuinely good out in children. We have watched it happen again and again.
Alongside Hidden Bee Learning, we also run Hidden Bee Farm Animal Rescue. Both grew from the same place in us. A love of animals, a love of community, and a belief that the things we build should be genuinely worth something to the people around us.
A Little of What Drives the Work
Family First
Two sons, two very different paths, and a deep respect for the fact that children are not all the same and should not be treated that way.
Strong Readers
Reading is at the center of everything here. It opens doors, builds confidence, and matters more than most things we can give a child.
Animals and the Farm
This farm is part of our family’s story, and sharing it with other families is something we do not take for granted.
A Place to Belong
My hope is that every child who comes here feels welcome, supported, and genuinely glad to be here.
